Event details emerge at Orlando's FXShow

At Orlando's FXShow this past weekend there was a Disney Parks / Star Wars Exclusives panel that revealed many of the Park exclusives we will see at Star Wars Weekends and beyond in 2009 and some news about the Events.
  • SWW Trivia Contests, as have been done for the last few years will be for children 12 and under.
  • All the costumed Star Wars characters roaming the parks will be seen again with the addition of the new character, Captain Rex, added for 2009. Ahsoka Tano will be there as well following her 2008 debut.
  • The main logo for the Weekends features Clone Wars-style Yoda and Mickey.
  • Open edition 9" plush Luke Mickey and Leia Minnie dolls will be available.
  • As always, there will be two limited exclusive pins per weekend. This years style will feature two movie characters on a spinning disc (with their affiliation logo on the reverse) hung from an interesting crescent shape that says Walt Disney World Star Wars Weekends 2009.
  • For Grievous fans there will be a beautiful fully articulated General Grievous pin that features multi-joined arms and legs. (This and the weekly pins have been posted at the forums)
  • The four previously announced Big Figs will feature light-up bases and the Donald in Carbonite will have lights on the side "control panels." Unlike last year, Disney is hoping to have these for pick-up at the parks (last year you could pre-order them, but they did not come out till September). If they are not available the first weekend or two, they expect they will have arrived by the final two weeks. Either way, one Big Fig will be sold or pre-sold per Weekend till they are sold out. Each figure will be limited to 500 pieces at Disney World and 100 pieces at Disneyland in California.
  • Star Wars Hot Buttons will be a new product in several styles featuring a character saying three phrases. Think Office Depot's "Easy Button."
  • Puzzles of classic posters replacing the classic Star Wars characters with Disney character versions. One is a nice Hildebrandt-style remake featuring Kermit the Frog as Luke, Miss Piggy as Leia, and Gonzo as Dark Nader (Darth Vader) and Beeker-3PO. My favorite of these posters will be styled after the 1-year Anniversary "birthday cake" poster celebrating Star Tours "since 1987" flanked by a circle of Star Tours action figures. Currently all these are going to be only available as puzzles, not regular posters.
  • Expect three more Potato Head versions added this year: C-3PotatO, and versions of Yoda and Chewbacca.
  • As posted elsewhere, a 3rd wave of Star Wars Racers (character-inspired Hot Wheels-sized vehicles) will be available. They'll also debut a special Darth Vader carrying case that hold 17 Racers and is filled with 15 Racers, including 4 only available in this set! The price will be $49.95. Individual cars retail for $4.95 so this is a third off AND you get the case.  There will also be 1:24 scale RC cars in Darth Vader and Darth Maul styles.
  • Build Your Own Lightsaber stations will have additional pieces added to make for even more combinations.
  • Gentle Giant is designing a new upcoming Collectible Figures set for release in the Fall. These sets retail for $12.95 and usually include 5 or 6 non-articulated figures. Details forthcoming.
  • In addition to the Indiana Jones Racer that will be available this Spring, Disneyland will also feature a die-cast Jeep from their IJ attraction in an exclusive vehicle 4-pack.
  • And while they could not confirm the release of a Mickey as Indiana Jones Big Fig, one has been developed, but has not yet been approved.
Many thanks to Campbell for sending this information

Great Info

That is a lot of info to digest.  Some very cool stuff here and I'm anxious to see it.  I'm guessing that one way or another you will be able to purchase one of EACH of the figs during the first weekend either by order or for pick up.  I'm trying to be better this year, but as soon as I read this I'm like a kid in a candy store!
