I've looked and looked at the logo for this year's Star Wars Weekends. As we reported here several months ago, the logo depicts Boba Fett, jet pack firing, shooting his arm mounted blaster at Mickey, dressed as pre-Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker. Mickey, using his blue lightsaber, is deflecting Boba Fett's blaster fire. In my best Comic Book Guy voice I have this to say, "Worst SWW Logo Ever."
Okay, maybe that is a bit much. I suppose I am in the minority of people who doesn't find the Boba Fett character all that appealing. There is no doubt, he has some cool armor. It has a missile launcher attached to it, it makes Boba Fett fly (or falling with style?), and can shoot an ineffective cable from it to ensnare his enemies. Neat.
I suppose the drawback of Boba Fett's character for me is the fact that his character does next to nothing in the movies. While he is a mysterious bounty hunter that made his original debut in the Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett mostly just stands around the entire time and tells Lando's men to put Carbonite Han in the cargo hold. In Return of the Jedi, his scenes pretty much consist of him flirting with Jabba's dancers, standing some more, failing to capture/defeat Luke Skywalker, and falling unceremoniusly into the sarlacc pit. That's it. The look of Boba Fett may be cool, there just is no substance or significance to the character whatsoever.
Now before the SW fanboys start throwing cans of tomato soup at me, I will say that the SWW logo for the 30th anniversary of the Empire Strikes Back is fitting. Boba Fett is a decent representation of that what many consider to be the best Stars Wars film. However, if you were to ask me, I'd want a logo with a Super Star Destroyer hovering over the Earful Tower, with Mickey/Luke looking upwards with a lightsaber in one hand(paw?). I'd buy 100 of those pins thank you very much. Unfortunately, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney called me for my input. Oh well!
Finally, there also might be some cross-promotion going on as well with the depiction of Boba Fett on the SWW logo. Our friends over at TheForce.net posted this story on Sunday:
Interesting! And with rumors that the live action series is set to premiere in 2012 will also feature an adolescent/young adult Boba Fett, perhaps this one-dimensional character will finally get some substance after all.
Whether you like the SWW 2010 logo or not, there is no doubt that Star Wars fans are excited that in just a few short months, we'll be back at Disney's Hollywood Studios for some very fun times. I can't wait.

No Fett love
I've always thought Bobba Fett looked cool, but like you, I think he's overrated.
Nonetheless, I still think the logo looks great this year. Perhaps a few years of miserable logo attempts have watered down my taste for SWW logos, but I'm happy to see this year's logo.
